PRESSURE ATHLETES

Juan "Pegajoso" Diaz

UFC Fighter | Bantamweight | UFC PI Mexico | Alfa Team

Juan was born in Peru and moved to Argentina at eleven, where he started training in 2012. Drawn to fighting and wrestling since childhood, he built his base in jiu-jitsu and grappling, becoming a tournament champion in both. Juan later moved to Tijuana, Mexico alone at nineteen, working as a waiter, security guard, and construction worker to fund his training.

Today he trains at the UFC Performance Institute in Mexico City alongside his longtime team, Alfa Team. Juan earned his UFC contract with a spinning-back-elbow knockout on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2025, and he’s carried that momentum into a nine-fight win streak, going 16-1-1 with zero finishes against him in eighteen professional fights.

Coach Matthew Buell

Blue Belt | Middleweight | 10th Planet | West Palm Beach, FL

Matthew is a coach and personal trainer at 10th Planet West Palm Beach, holding two NASM certifications and running his own kids' jiu-jitsu and kickboxing classes. He spent six years competing in taekwondo at the national level before taking some time off to search for his direction.

A family member led Matthew to 10th Planet, where he quickly fell in love with Jiu-Jitsu. He began training nearly every day through classes, privates, and serving as uke for lessons under Doel Cortes. For Matthew, the mats provided what a classroom never could, so the decision to build his life there came naturally. He says martial arts has given him structure, a moral compass, a sense of belonging, and a way to help others find their own path.

Laith Maged Saif

White Belt | Light Featherweight | Glory Martial Arts Center | Brooklyn, NY

Laith is a jiu-jitsu practitioner at Glory Martial Arts Center in Brooklyn, and he competes more than most white belts do. He earned gold at the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con Novice division, the Jiu-Jitsu World League, and Grappling Industries. His nickname, “Al Sayf”, Arabic for “The Sword”, fits someone who trains like every roll counts.

Laith is still building his name in the sport, and he’s not waiting around to do it. Every open mat, class, and tournament, is another rep toward getting there. That kind of consistency is rare for someone just starting out, and it’s the kind of drive that comes from seeking out pressure instead of avoiding it. Laith steps outside his comfort zone because that’s where the growth is.

Beth Robinette

White Belt | Bantamweight | Roger Carpenter American Jiu-Jitsu | Hemet, CA

Beth is a teacher and a mother of two girls, training out of RCAJJ in Hemet, California. She started jiu-jitsu eight months ago and stepped onto the competition mat just four months later, wishing she'd found the sport sooner. Every match since has ended in gold, gi and no-gi both. She trains five to six days a week, pushing to understand the sport on a deeper level, and credits her coaches and teammates for fueling her growth along the way.

Jiu-jitsu came into her life at the right time, and it became part of her healing. She hopes to inspire other girls and moms to step onto the mats themselves, and to find that same confidence in their abilities on and off them.
